The following are some of the Beck working notes.. we have been in contact with many of the Beck descendants. We are still in the process of expanding and correcting these pieces of information.. We are presently in the process of obtaining additional information of the Lowry/Lowery's in Shelby, Coosa, Jefferson and Macon county Alabama. We are continuing to expand our information on Crumpton, Cameron and Avery. We are continuing to find additional data on Andrew Madison Lowery and his family, and on William Walter Lowery. Any amplifications or additional data will be greatly appreciated.

Tue 10 Dec 1996 09:22 pm Descendants of Jesse BECK Page 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ First Generation 1 Jesse BECK, born in 1799 at SC; buried at Enon Bapt. Churc, FL. Jesse Beck's burial place has not been identified.. It was not located in the Enon Florida Baptist Church Cemetery. Other information indicates that his wife Sarah moved back to Covington County AL to live with her daughter, Nancy, after her husbands death. Jesse's birth date may have been born 1799? Jesse Beck moved from SC to GA, where Jesse married Sarah. They had two children in GA, and then moved to Covington County Alabama about 1841, where they had the remainder of their family. Other Beck's that moved to Covington county and may be related are William Green Beck (GA) and John Beck (SC). Jesse Beck and his family are listed in the 1850 and 1860 census reports. They were living near the Wesley Mathis and the Kisiah Jane (Mathis) Lowery families in the 1860 census report. Jesse Beck, Wesley Mathis, and the Lowery families are not listed in the 1870 census report on Covington Co. Indications at this time indicate that Jesse Beck's and Wesley Mathis's families moved to the Perdido Florida area in Escambia Co. FL prior to 1870. Both families children were involved in the founding of Enon, FL in the 1880/1885 time frame. He was admitted to Way Hospital, Meridian, MS on 14 Jun. 1865. This was obviously a Union Hospital. At the same time, he was parolled and signed a declaration swaring not to bear arems against the US. Married Richard MORGAN. Family anecdote: Richard MORGAN hated blacks and it was generally known that he had killed several who he felt had crossed him in some way. Nothing was ever proved and he was never caught, but he apparently made no secret of the fact. Eventually he was shot to death while he was out plowing his field. Field hands who witnessed the killing denied seeing anyone with a gun, and claimed that the shots had come from the nearby woods. However, those who knew MORGAN believed that he was killed by a vengeful relative of one of his victims, and that some of the witnesses may have actually known more than they admitted. 12 F xi Amanda BECK, born in 1853 at Williams Mills, Covington, AL. + 13 F xii Mary Florence BECK. Carolina Ruby BECK married (1) Andrew J. JERNIGAN. 19 M vi Alfred BECK, born in 1875. Family anecdote: A descendant of Alfred's, a Winston BECK, married a Martha SEABROOK (who is buried in her family's plot in Milton Cemetery, Santa Rosa, FL.) Martha and Winston later split up, and Martha went north and took up with (or possibly married) another man. She and this man committed a series of murders known as the "Lonely Hearts Murders" across the eastern US, and Martha was executed in NY for the crimes. It isn't currently known whether her partner in crime was also caught, convicted, or executed. According to the Pensacola BECKS, this story was often rehashed in the local FL papers, since the BECKS were long-time residents of this area. Many BECK family members were irate at the negative publicity and indignant at the notoriety because, as Irene FAULK explained it, "She wasn't even a Beck, she just MARRIED one." + 20 F vii Mary Alice BECK. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Second Generation Tue 10 Dec 1996 09:22 pm Descendants of Jesse BECK Page 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 21 F viii Eula BECK, born in Jul 1879; died in 1912. + 22 M ix Ernest Bedford BECK. 23 F x Ola BECK, born in 1883; buried at Pine Grove Cemet.
